How Much Does Custom Card Printing Cost?
Price is usually the first question, and the honest answer is that it depends on a few things. Here is what actually drives the cost of a custom card order, with real numbers, so you can ballpark your project before you ask for a quote.
What goes into the price
A few things set the price. There is a one-time setup fee per project that covers getting your files ready to run on the press, and then a per-card rate. For print-ready poker-size cards that rate runs about $0.10 to $0.15 each, and there is no minimum, so a single deck, or even a single card, is fine.
Card size and quantity move the number too. Larger sizes like tarot cost more per card, roughly two to three times a poker card as you step up in size, while bigger runs earn a discount on printing that starts around 5% at 250 cards and grows from there. Design work, if your files are not already print-ready, plus finishing like a box or sleeves and delivery, are add-ons priced to the project.
A rough example
Say you want a single poker-size prototype deck of 54 cards and your files are print-ready. That is a $25 setup fee plus about $0.10 to $0.15 per card, so roughly $30 to $33 for the printing. Add a custom 3D-printed box for around $9 if you want the deck to feel finished, and a complete one-off prototype deck lands in the neighborhood of $40, before delivery. Larger runs cost more in total but less per card.
Design and finishing add-ons
If you need the cards designed, card layout is $40 per side, so a front and a back is $80, and that layout is a template all your cards share. Custom 3D-printed boxes start at $9 for a deck under 100 cards, and sleeves run $10 to $15 per hundred depending on the grade.
