Prototype Decks vs. Short Runs: How Many Cards to Print First

Printing a game is not one decision, it is a few. Knowing when to print one deck versus a small batch saves money and catches problems early.

Start with a prototype deck

A single printed prototype tells you things a screen never will: how the cards feel, whether the text is readable, and whether the layout works at the table.

Print one, play it, and mark what needs to change. Then print the next version. Fast iteration beats a perfect first try.

Move to a short run when the design settles

Once the rules and layout are stable, a short run gets you enough copies for a focused playtest group, demos, or early sales without the cost of a large order.

Short runs are also good for clubs, events, and stores that need a modest number of finished decks.

Scale up with confidence

When the game is proven and the art is final, you can commit to a larger run knowing the deck is right.

At every stage, a real printed deck is the best test. We keep prototypes quick so you can keep improving.

Done for you

We can design and develop your cards, or the content

Have it ready? We design, lay out, and structure the cards from the content and artwork you provide. Need help with the content itself? We can develop that with you too, then prototype it fast. Either way, you get finished, print-ready cards.
